There are a wide range of qualifications that are suitable for anyone working in this sector. Some qualifications will be mandatory and some desirable for career progression.

Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's WorkforceList Item 1
This is the recognised qualification for those wishing to enter the Children and Young People’s Workforce in England. It requires the learner to spend time in a real work environment but it is nonetheless suitable for different types of learner, including those in full-time formal learning, those in part-time formal learning and those in full-time employment. The qualification carries 65 credits.

Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Health and Social Care
The Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children is for learners who work in - or who would like to work in - the Adult Social Care sector in England. Typical completion time for this qualification is 12-18 months and carries 90 credits.

Assessor QualificationsList Item 4
This is a recognised qualification for those wishing to become assessors. The awards are generic in that holders of the award can assess any subject in which they are deemed to be occupationally competent and qualified. A minimum of 12 credits must be achieved to qualify for the the award. This is typically done within 12 months.

Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (QCF) develops skills, knowledge and understanding to enable learners to lead a team of internal quality assurers.

Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training
This is a recognised qualification for those wishing to become teachers or trainers in adult education and replaces the older CTLLS (Certificate to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) teaching course. The course is generic in that holders of the qualification can teach or train any subject in which they are deemed to be occupationally competent.

This award is designed for key workers delivering intense support to families with multiple and complex needs using the family intervention model.

Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools
The Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools combines knowledge and practice for those specialist support staff roles that directly support teaching and learning. The Level 3 Diploma recognises competence in both generic and specialist aspects of supporting teaching and learning in schools. Typical completion time for this qualification is 12-18 months and it carries 44 credits.

This Apprenticeship is designed for first line managers who will be responsible for managing a team in their delivery of a clearly defined outcome. This Apprenticeship can typically be completed within 12-18 months.

Level 3 Diploma in Management
This is the recognised qualification for those wishing to work in the social care sector for children and young people as part of the Children and Young People’s Workforce in England. This is the required qualification for workers delivering residential childcare provision. It covers work with children and young people from birth up to 18 years.

Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership
The Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership is designed for learners to develop core middle management skills and competencies. It also introduces learners to strategic management concepts, preparing those who aspire towards senior management roles. An alternative and generic management qualification.

Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management
This is a recognised qualification for those with substantial senior management responsibility, some of which is at a strategic level. It is a “cross-sector” qualification that can be used in any environment at this level.

The Level 3 Diploma in Youth Work Practice (QCF) is designed to prepare learners to lead work with young people in a range of youth work settings.
